Mike was a Martial Artist when he was younger, competed in Karate, Thai boxing and Kick Boxing before developing an interest in Football and Track. He played semi professional football and won medals in track, including going 4 years undefeated in the 4x100m relay. Injuries blighted his career and frustrating with outdated training practices lead him down the career he has had

He spent his early career as a therapist working for Connect Physical health with TASS Athletes as well as other private patients, but soon became frustrated with patients not completing their programs and began coaching them through them in the gym, on the track or the field
Testing would include range of motion, strength and fitness tests to ascertain if the program was working
Coaching sat at the center of his process alongside the athletes he worked with
Mike worked for Manchester City Ladies FC (prior to them becoming professional) as well as GB Basketball, running his own clinical company Sports Rehab UK.
From 2010-2015 Mike was Head of Performance and Rehabilitation for Macclesfield RUFC who competed in National League One, this included assessment and rehabilitation of injured players, player training, injury prevention and player warm ups. This also included bespoke player programs for both training and nutrition.

From 2014-2017 Mike was asked to develop a bespoke Rehabilitation and Strength and Conditioning Pathway as part of his role in the Ministry Of Defence. This involved working with 500 troops on camp, including initially 150+ injured operatives and another 5,000 attached to the camp across the region. Mike was able to decrease the injury rates by over 60% and the number of long term injured by over 80%.

During this time Mike consulted with Premier League teams offering Isokinetics and S&C input, 1-2-1 with athletes from various sports including Rugby 7’s, MMA, Boxing, Football and Track. This included several national champions and International athletes.
In 2017 Mike began working with Andy Robertson, GB Sprinter and 2017 and 2020 Indoor Champion. They have worked together for 6 years with Andy representing team GB at European and World Championships and the Athletics World Cup.

In 2019-2020 Mike spent time working across all age groups for England and GB Basketball starting with the England U15 Boys and Girls travelling to Copenhagen, Denmark, before working with the Men’s U20 team building towards the European Championships. This saw him travelling between Manchester, Treviso (Italy) and Tel Aviv (Isreal). GB finished 8th, their highest ever placing for a Men’s Basketball team. Upon his return he then spent time with the medal winning Women’s camp and the Men’s camp prior to their Eurocup qualification matches.
Mike also visited Manchester United and met with Gary Walker, the teams S&C coach discussing all things performance and specifically around running mechanics, training, resisted sprinting and movement training.


In recent years Mike’s focus has been on 1-2-1 athlete consulting in Track and Field, Football, Rugby, Basketball and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
Mike currently lectures at the University of Salford where he is program lead for the Sport Rehabilitation degree, he is part of the Sport Research group under the tutelage and guidance of John Mcmahon and Professor Paul Comfort and is developing a PhD theme around physical assessments pertaining to muscles comparing and validating assessments from bodyweight capacity, force plate assessments and isometric strength assessments.


He has also collaborated on work with Dr Lee Herrington, Dr Chris Bramah and Dr Allan Munro.
